The Dow is set to open 600 points higher, a second day of gains; Nasdaq futures hit ‘limit up’

U.S. stock futures jumped on Friday, pointing to a second day of gains. Nasdaq futures hit ‘limit up’ levels on exchanges.

As of 6:44 a.m. ET, Dow Jones Industrial Average futures were up about 700 points, implying a gain of more than 600 points at the open on Friday. S&P 500 futures were up about 3%.

Nasdaq-100 futures jumped nearly 5% and were “limit up,” meaning no trades could take place above those levels. CME Group halts futures at certain bands in overnight trading in order to curb panic trading. Futures have hit these extreme levels multiple times during this volatile month, mostly to the downside.

The Fed will be buying $75 billion in Treasurys Thursday and Friday as part of stimulus effort

The Federal Reserve will be buying $75 billion in Treasurys on Thursday and Friday as the central bank ramps up its efforts to keep markets flowing smoothly amid the coronavirus crisis.

In the latest in a frenzied series of developments, the New York Fed laid out a schedule for its purchases across a series of maturities.

In all, the purchases will total $75 billion, an acceleration from the $40 billion total the Fed had originally set when it announced its latest operations to expand its balance sheet.

The schedule looks like this:

For The First Time Since The 1970s, Texas Is Considering Curtailing Oil Production

Following the 2014 Thanksgiving massacre, Saudi Arabia effectively broke up OPEC to try to kill the US shale sector by overproducing oil and sending its price plunging. It failed largely thanks to the extreme generosity of "yield-starved" junk bond buyers.

Six years later, and another, far more harrowing price water later which dragged the price of oil to nearly two decade lows, Saudi Arabia appears to have finally won.

Trump To Intervene In Russia-Saudi Price War At "Appropriate Time" After Crude Hit $20

As Congressional voices and US oil companies have grown louder in urging President Trump to mount a muscular pushback against the Russians and Saudis flooding the market following their spat early this month that triggered an ongoing oil-price war — which lately witness crude falling to $20 yesterday — the administration has said it plans to get involved at "the appropriate time" and hopes to find a "middle ground". Trump said Thursday at a White House briefing: "They are in a fight on price, on output," and indicated that "At the appropriate time I will get involved."

Early this month the Saudis were caught completely off-guard when Putin said Russia would ignore Riyadh and OPEC+ plans to significantly cut production, effectively and dramatically overturning the balance of power in the oil world while declaring war on US shale, sending crude prices crashing and leaving dozens of American producers teetering on bankruptcy.

The Pandemic Will Cause A Global Depression - We Need Demand Side Measures To Counter It

Last week's post on Boeing ended with this line:

The pandemic, and the global depression it will cause, now make it certain that Boeing will have to ask for a gigantic government bailout or go into bankruptcy.
With most flights grounded due to the pandemic Boeing is now thinking about cutting its production and laying off workers.

In the quoted sentence I used the words "the global depression it will cause" with care. I do indeed believe that a sustained, long-term downturn in economic activity in many countries will be one of the results of this pandemic.

A Contagion Of Fear

Tens of thousands of people die from the flu every year, and no one panics. Over 60,000 Americans died of the flu in the 2019 flu season and over 80,000 Americans died of the flu during the 2018 flu season. That computes to more people dying from the flu—just in America in one month alone—than have died from corona in the entire world to date.

Think of it another way: Every year, as many or more Americans die of the flu than were killed in all of the Vietnam War. And no panic! No closed restaurants. No empty shelves in stores. No presidential plea to stay home. No closed churches. No businesses shutting down. No panic!

The order issued late Thursday also bars dine-in service in restaurants in the same counties by close of business on Friday, March 20. But Ducey said restaurants will be able to deliver alcoholic drinks to patrons who get food to go.

Italy’s Embrace of China’s ‘Belt and Road’ Is a Snub to Washington

Anybody wonder why Italy has been hit so hard by the virus?

More than seven centuries after a 17-year-old Marco Polo set off from Venice on a voyage that would culminate at the court of Kublai Khan, the Italian city continues to tout itself as the westernmost point of the ancient Silk Road, China’s gateway into Europe. Now it faces some competition from Trieste, an increasingly busy port city on the northeastern edge of Italy, whose contributions to commerce and culture included popularizing coffee by importing, roasting, and shipping the beans northward, to Vienna’s cafes and beyond.

Coronavirus will bankrupt more people than it kills — and that's the real global emergency

Coronavirus’s economic danger is exponentially greater than its health risks to the public. If the virus does directly affect your life, it is most likely to be through stopping you going to work, forcing your employer to make you redundant, or bankrupting your business.

The trillions of dollars wiped from financial markets this week will be just the beginning, if our governments do not step in. And if President Trump continues to stumble in his handling of the situation, it may well affect his chances of re-election. Joe Biden in particular has identified Covid-19 as a weakness for Trump, promising “steady, reassuring” leadership during America’s hour of need.

Trump Regime COVID-19 Guidelines Exclude Equitable Fiscal Measures for Ordinary Americans

In times of economic duress like now, US policymakers and the Wall Street owned and operated Fed throw hundreds of billions or trillions of dollars at business and investors to aid them and financial markets — crumbs at most for cash-strapped households hard-pressed to get by.

For weeks, Trump failed to acknowledge the risk of a growing public health crisis, admitting it belatedly on Monday with guidelines that exclude financial help for ordinary people in need.

It calls for “15 days to slow (COVID-19’s) spread” that could take months or longer to control and eliminate nationwide.

Workers At These Companies Say They Can’t Get Sick Leave

Many of the country’s largest retailers and fast-food chains don’t pay employees when they’re sick ? a policy that could put those workers, their families and the public at risk as the coronavirus sweeps through the U.S.

Workers at Target, Walmart, Kroger, Taco Bell, Subway, Burger King and a slew of other well-known businesses say they don’t get paid sick leave, according to a survey of workers from The Shift Project, a joint research effort from two sociologists at the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of California, San Francisco. David Crosby: Not too good. I'm sitting here waiting for them to cancel all my tours this summer and put me in deep financial trouble.

That sounds incredibly stressful.

Yeah, it is. Because, you know they don't pay us for records anymore, right? So touring is all we got. That's really the only thing that we can do to make any money. And to lose it is just awful. Make no mistake whatsoever: this is the New World Order's long awaited Big Push.

A magician does something with his left hand, as he signals his audience to look at his right hand.

They have been at it since late September. Remember that 'impeachment'? Everybody was just wondering: 'what's it all about?' Well, it was about distracting people from the financial implosion that had begun.

Soleimani? He got blown away on the day that..........the Federal Reserve reported they had already doled out $6 TRILLION short term loans on the repo market. They have been at it ever since, and it would be interesting to know what they have already given out. At this rate, they must be well in to 12, 15 Trillion territory, which is 2008 all over again, with the Fed doling out 16 TRILLION in loans to its Bankster buddies, $9 Trillion of which they admitted 'they cannot account for.'

2008 all over again? Well, this is only the beginning, 2008 was just a prelude, a walk in the park.

Obeisance to the “Greater Good”

We can look upon otherwise-advanced cultures such as the Egyptians, the Romans, the Aztecs, etc., and shake our heads at their naivete. All of them created great ceremonies that involved blood sacrifices, in order to appease the deities.

So, how are we doing? Have we banished paganism from the modern world?

Well, unfortunately, no. We may live in a more technological age, yet human nature remains the same. Those who are not highly focused within themselves have the perennial tendency to want to put their faith in some magical entity out there who will smile upon them and make all the bad things go away.

The Biggest Thing Since 1776 is Happening NOW… How the Coronavirus Will Spark the Greater Depression

International Man: Panicked people are emptying supermarket shelves and stockpiling toilet paper. Hand sanitizer is impossible to find anywhere.

Is the impact of the fear and hysteria greater than the risk of the virus itself?

Doug Casey: Yes, very much so. The virus itself is what we can call a first-order effect. I don’t want to spend much time talking about the flu itself because, even though worst-case numbers like a million deaths in the US are tossed around, it’s not the biggest problem.

The second-order effects—like the economy shutting down from hysteria—are actually much more serious.

The third-order effects—new laws and state action—will have the longest-lasting consequences. We can talk about them in a minute.

The Only Pandemic in America Is That of Unbridled Fear and a Total Lack of Intelligent Thought

“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.” ~ Frank Herbert,

Can the common flu cause people in America and worldwide to lose their minds, and lose all ability to think? Apparently, that is the case, as Americans have gone insane over a new monster created out of thin air called coronavirus. I have anticipated a scenario such as this, and written about it for the past decade or more, but the response by the people of this country is more ridiculous than even I could have imagined. It is the most pathetic sight I have seen in my life.

He was wrong on the impeachment, but he is right on this. These shutdown orders are unconstitutional. Mayors and governors are issuing a boiler plate order that seems to always contain the phrase no gatherings more than 10 people. This is martial law under false pretenses.

Before we do, though, I want to make it clear that I believe this Covid-19 thing is real, and is probably the deadliest threat to humanity in the history of deadly threats to humanity. According to the data I’ve been seeing, it’s only a matter of days, or hours, until nearly everyone on earth is infected and is either dying in agony and alone or suffering mild, common cold-like symptoms, or absolutely no symptoms whatsoever.

Watch: Lockheed Martin Uses Computer Graphics to Destroy Russia’s S-400s in New Promo

The clip, which heaps praise on the secretive Skunk Works division, notably features mostly computer-generated prototypes of aircraft, with the problematic F-35 fighter jet being the only already-existing model.

Lockheed Martin Corp has released a promotional video that appears to show a simulated airstrike on Russian weaponry.

More than halfway into the promo, CGI footage shows strikes by Lockheed’s planes on Russia’s trademark S-400 anti-air systems and a road-mobile Topol-M intercontinental ballistic missile system, as the voice-over narrates about the “ever-evolving threats” to US security.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The problem with the way in which the US military buys weapons from its suppliers, is rife with corruption and controversy, and must change immediately, if the US is ever going to gain, and maintain, weapons superiority against Russia and China.

It is no secret that the companies creating hardware and software for America's weaponry, donate to both sides of the aisle, so that at the end of the day, no matter which candidates or parties dominate the White House, their products will still be chosen.

And unless these products are designed intelligently, brilliantly well, and honor the American people, by also being brilliantly cost-effective, they will have failed this country miserably.

What our military needs, but is terrified to ask for, are weapons which get delivered timely; doing what they are advertised to do, and with no huge cost over-runs. Russia and China have those kinds of relationships with their suppliers; this country does not.

And THIS has cost us, and will cost us, big-time in terms of defensive and offensive weapons which really work, unless and until that changes.

And I will assure you, that US weapons manufacturers very much like the situation just as it is, with their ability to deliver so late, as to render them obsolete in the field; create products which ultimately never work as originally advertised, and have cost-overruns from here to, literally, eternity.

Israeli MP presents bills to annex Jordan Valley, impose death penalty on Palestinians

A right-wing Israeli parliamentarian submitted two bills to the Knesset on Wednesday seeking to permanently annex the Jordan Valley, the northern Dead Sea and the Hebron desert in the occupied West Bank to Israel, as well as impose the death penalty on Palestinian political prisoners.

Miki Zohar, the head of the Likud faction in the Knesset, said that the two bills he submitted would “embarrass” former army general Benny Gantz of the Blue and White party and Avigdor Lieberman of Yisrael Beitenu.

Gantz is currently speaking with Israeli parties to form a coalition government after receiving a thin majority last week from Israeli Knesset members.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the leader of Likud party, is maintaining contact with Gantz in a bid to form a national unity government, though the chances are slim that the two rivals will find common ground.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Hey, Zohar, let the Israeli people and the Knesset know how you REALLY FEEL about the Palestinians!!!

Apparently, irony is completely lost on this guy, who has utterly zero idea of just how horrific these suggestions are to rational people, even to some of the most hard-core Zionists in both this country, and in Israel.

What's next, if you have your way, forced Palestinian infanticide, Zohar?!?

And why am I having this deadening "thud", right across my solar plexus, as though he has already thought about this?!?

US Restaurant Association Projects Up To 7 Million Jobs Lost Over 3 Months

The pandemic ripple effect continues across the food and beverage server industry, as more and more major cities across the nation - including some states - declare 'health emergency' status and order the shutting of all dining and bar locations. Ohio was among the very first to declare it Sunday evening, and has since seen a nearly 600% leap in unemployment benefit applications since last week.

This appears the emerging pattern in other states as well, with Connecticut reporting 30,000 claims filed since last Friday, compared to a prior average of between 3,000 and 3,500 a week.

The National Restaurant Association is predicting the unprecedented carnage is only just beginning, on Wednesday writing a letter to the White House and Congress detailing an estimated $225 billion in sales will be wiped out over the next three months, crucially prompting the loss of between five and seven million jobs.

After Blowing $4.5 Trillion On Buybacks, US Execs Demand Taxpayer-Funded Bailouts Of Shareholders

The Trump administration is putting together a rumored trillion-dollar-plus stimulus package that will include taxpayer funded bailouts of Corporate America, according to leaks cited widely by the media. Trump in the press conference today singled out $50 billion in bailout funds for US airlines alone. A bailout of this type is designed to bail out shareholders and unsecured creditors. That’s all it is. The alternative would be a US chapter 11 bankruptcy procedure which would allow the company to operate, while it is being handed to the creditors, with shareholders getting wiped out.

INSIDE THE MILITARY'S TOP SECRET PLANS IF CORONAVIRUS CRIPPLES THE GOVERNMENT

Even as President Trump says he tested negative for coronavirus, the COVID-19 pandemic raises the fear that huge swaths of the executive branch or even Congress and the Supreme Court could also be disabled, forcing the implementation of "continuity of government" plans that include evacuating Washington and "devolving" leadership to second-tier officials in remote and quarantined locations.

But Coronavirus is also new territory, where the military itself is vulnerable and the disaster scenarios being contemplated -- including the possibility of widespread domestic violence as a result of food shortages -- are forcing planners to look at what are called "extraordinary circumstances".

Webmaster's Commentary:

I do not know if this kind of "contingency martial law" scares the hell out of you; because it certainly scares the hell out of me.

What occurs to me is that wonderful line so beloved by Rahm Emanuel; "Never let a good crisis go to waste."

We are looking at draconian controls over Americans, the like of which we have never seen in our lifetimes.

And one has to wonder if the worst case scenario comes from the Covid 19 per se, or the controls which are being contemplated, to be thrown at US society.

BOJ Admits It Has Lost 3 Trillion Yen On Its Equity Purchases Despite Literally Printing Money Out Of Thin Air

Long gone are the days when central banks pretended they aren't in the business of propping up the stock market.

A week after we reported that the BOJ had bought a record amount of ETFs in a desperate attempt to stabilize its illiquid stock market, where the central bank now owns over 73% of all ETFs, Kuroda bought a whopping 121.6BN yen of ETFs on Tuesday, the most on record, and just one day after the BOJ doubled the upper limit of ETFs it can purchase to 12 trillion yen, without however answering where it will get all those ETFs from.

The purchases in its core ETF program jumped by 20% to 120.4BN yen from the previous record of 100.2BN yen; while ETFs bought in the BOJ's "physical and human capital" program - whereby the BOJ directly admits it is rewarding companies for pursuing policies that it finds appealing such as higher jobs - remain at 1.2b yen. Finally, the BOJ's J-REIT purchases rose to 1.5BN yen from 1.2BN yen.

Standing at the Precipice of a Financial Collapse

As Republican and democrat politicians hold emergency meetings to decide how to avoid a meltdown of Wall Street, the smell of hyperinflation looms in the air as much today as it did in Germany during the opening months of 1922.

This week, markets were propped up by a record-breaking offering of $1.5 Trillion in liquidity injections over the coming months (added to the $9 trillion already injected over the past six months), and rather than deal with the real reasons for this oncoming financial collapse, the media has brainwashed the west that everything would have been just fine, “if only coronavirus had not become a pandemic”.

But what is really being bailed out here exactly and why? Is this money actually making it to the real economy? Is it being invested to rebuild America’s farms, businesses, and industry?

Gold and Silver Prices Fall Despite Bullion Shortages and Rising Premiums

? Gold and particularly silver prices have fallen sharply in recent days due to massive concerted selling in the futures market which is being attributed to margin call selling.

? Gold and silver prices are down by 4.5% and 24% respectively in March despite unprecedented demand for gold and silver bullion globally which is leading to a shortage of gold and silver coins and bars, delivery issues and to sharply rising premiums on coins and bars.

? The real world forces of limited physical supply of and significant global demand for precious metals versus the selling of electronic futures is resulting in a growing divergence between the spot price and the actual price that coins and bars are sold at. Hence, premiums on gold and particularly silver coins and bars are rising significantly.

From Netanyahu grabbing the chance to postpone his corruption trial to Hollywood starlets claiming they have ‘tested positive’ (surely not a sad and cynical attempt to up their profile), this bandwagon is seething and teeming with those trying to seize their moment of fame or get rich or stay out of jail or just join in the mayhem

It’s cool to be nCoV-positive now. Maybe that’s why such inordinate numbers of famous people are staking their claim to it.

Market Participants Still Too Optimistic

Mar 18 08:24

More than Just a Virus

As we are all collectively, as One Universe, experiencing the potential of a coronavirus infection, we have been assured that the outbreak originated in a fish market in Wuhan, China’s eighth largest city with a population of 11 million. That is the largely unchallenged conclusion since China is well known for its extensive network of high tech labs and since the SARS virus began in China last year.

At first glance, it seems a passing curiosity that the next two most extensively affected countries with corona infections, each disparate from China and each other, have extensive trade relations with China. In defiance of science, why would Italy be the most infected country outside of China?

Webmaster's Commentary:

I am presenting this article for its FWIW (for what it's worth) factor; but the hype, vs/ the reality here, if in fact COVID-19 was bio-engineered as a weapon, cannot be ignored, and for precisely the same reasons Renee Parsons articulates in this article.

Iraq envoy to UN threatens arrest of US troops for attacks on pro-Iran militias

Iraq’s envoy to the UN threatened on Tuesday to arrest US troops in the country for carrying out air strikes on Iranian-backed Iraqi militias in the country amid rising tensions between US troops and pro-Iranian groups.

The US “perpetrators will be arrested and held accountable” for the attacks on the Iraqi militias last week, said Iraq’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Mohammed Hussein Bahr al-Uloom in a draft letter seen by Al Arabiya English.

Iran supports militias in Iraq operating under the umbrella of the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU). The US has designated some of the PMU militias, including Katai'b Hezbollah, as terrorist organizations and increasingly come into conflict with them as the US and Iran compete for influence in Iraq.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Let me ask; did you see this headline in any Corporate Presstitute outlet, yesterday, or today?!?

Would you not think that this would be a story of extreme interest to the American people, particularly since it was spelled out at the UN, in New York?!?

Folks, the situation in Iraq is in intense melt-down, and although the current Iraqi government is doing their best to get occupying US and NATO forces out of the country, and trying to do it the "honorable way" (i.e., raising holy hell at the UN, as they did yesterday), they are not going to be successful in this endeavor.

Look for more Guerrilla fighting, particularly by Shia-aligned forces, against US and NATO troops.

And folks, here is my bet; the fighters are most probably not Iranian nationals; they are most probably Iraqis Shias, who simply want their country back from US/NATO control; and the question I have to ask, nearly 17 years after the original attack (March 20, 2003) and occupation of Iraq by the US, can we really, honestly blame them?!?
