espite Democrats' attempts to make a dent in Florida, President Joe Biden‘s campaign manager knows when it is time to call it quits.

In an interview that Puck's John Heilemann described as a “rare and candid conversation,” campaign manager Jen O'Malley Dillon was asked about the Biden team's strategy for 2024, including what states the campaign viewed as true battlegrounds they could win.

Mediaite has more:

Heilemann: If you boil it down, what you're saying is that 2020 was a national election; there were battleground states, but you ran the campaign like a national referendum on Trump. But in 2024, you're running a half-dozen targeted state campaigns—which gets us to the topic of your paths to victory. I named six states [Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Nevada, Arizona, and Georgia]. You'd agree those are battlegrounds, yes?

O'Malley Dillon: Yes.

And you're saying you see North Carolina also as a battleground state?

Yes.

Florida?

No.

Thank you. I was afraid you were going to lie.

Former New York governor Andrew Cuomo said Friday that the “hush-money” case in which former president Donald Trump was convicted only occurred because of Trump’s aspirations to return to the White House.

“If his name was not Donald Trump and if he wasn’t running for president — I’m the former AG of New York — I’m telling you that case never would’ve been brought,” the former governor, who resigned after facing a slew of sexual-harassment allegations, told Bill Maher on Real Time.

Forty-seven percent of Americans, according to a recent ABC News/Ipsos survey, believe Trump’s conviction on 34 counts in relation to his payments to pornographic actress Stormy Daniels in 2016 was politically motivated.

Former UN weapons inspector Scott Ritter commented on Ukraine’s terrorist attack on Sevastopol.

“The Ukrainians made a decision to use ATACMS missiles equipped with cluster munitions against a city, a civilian city. This is an act of terrorism,” Ritter emphasized.

“Ukraine since 2014 has been bombarding Russian civilian sites, cities, villages, towns for the sole purpose of inflicting death and destruction on Russian civilians. This is an act of terrorism and given that the ATACMS missiles cannot be deployed by the Ukrainians without extensive intelligence support by the United States, this is an act of terrorism by the United States against Russia,” the analyst said.

Young Americans are now facing mandatory registration for selective service, i.e. a military draft. Meanwhile, recruitment for the “all-volunteer” military remains sluggish. But no one in authority suggests the obvious solution to recruitment shortfalls: downsize the U.S. military’s imperial bootprint, i.e. stop striving for “global reach, global power” and focus instead on true national defense.

I saw where the Biden administration is “helping” Americans to qualify for home mortgage loans by deleting medical-related debt from credit reports. In other words, people still have to pay their medical debts; the fact that they have medical debts will just be masked so that they can qualify for more debt in the form of a home mortgage loan. If that doesn’t scream Biden compromise, I don’t know what does.

It’s so sad and disheartening how quickly Aaron Bushnell’s sacrificial suicide to protest genocide in Gaza has been dismissed and forgotten by the corporate-owned media in America.

DEI is dead! Long live DEI!

That, at least, is the situation now prevailing on America’s university campuses. Glance at recent news stories, and the story you’ll see is that, after decades of growth and four years of absolutely running wild, the diversity and inclusion industry is now in full retreat.

In a promising shift, both MIT and Harvard University have (for now) publicly abandoned the requirement that job applicants submit loathsome “diversity statements” as part of a job application. According to no less of an authority than the New York Times, this could be “The End for Mandatory D.E.I. Statements.”

NYT:

“The switch has flipped as of now,” said Jeffrey S. Flier, the former dean of Harvard Medical School. Many professors on hiring committees, he said, may have been reluctant to voice their concerns about mandatory diversity statements before now. “But I think the large, silent majority of faculty who question the implementation of these programs and, in particular, these diversity statements — these people are being heard.”

From his home office in small-town Kentucky, a seasoned political operative is quietly investigating scores of federal employees suspected of being hostile to the policies of Republican Donald Trump, a highly unusual and potentially chilling effort that dovetails with broader conservative preparations for a new White House.

Tom Jones and his American Accountability Foundation are digging into the backgrounds, social media posts and commentary of key high-ranking government employees, starting with the Department of Homeland Security. They’re relying in part on tips from his network of conservative contacts, including workers. In a move that alarms some, they’re preparing to publish the findings online.

With a $100,000 grant from the Heritage Foundation, the goal is to post 100 names of government workers to a website this summer to show a potential new administration who might be standing in the way of a second-term Trump agenda — and ripe for scrutiny, reclassifications, reassignments or firings.

Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco President Mary Daly has indeed warned that the U.S. labor market is approaching an inflection point. She emphasized that further slowing in the labor market could lead to higher unemployment. While the labor market has adjusted slowly so far, Daly cautioned that we are getting closer to a point where this benign outcome may be less likely. Firms may need to adjust not only vacancies but actual jobs, potentially resulting in increased unemployment. Importantly, she highlighted that inflation is not the only risk they face.

Currently, in Ukraine, there is no opposition and politicians challenging Volodymyr Zelensky as they are either in prison or abroad, according to the country’s former prime minister, Mykola Azarov. He also highlighted that Kiev would be forced to accept any agreement between Russia and the United States.

“There is no opposition in Ukraine now. [Pyotr] Poroshenko or [Yulia] Tymoshenko are not opposition. Their policy was no different from the current policy of the Kiev regime. The real opposition was eliminated. Some were killed, others are in prison, and some were forced to go abroad,” Azarov said in an interview with the newspaper Argumenty i Fakty published on June 24.

According to the former prime minister, the left-wing parties and opposition forces in Ukraine now do not exist.

“In addition, trade unions are absent, and there is strong persecution of the Church. The current conflict is often presented as a confrontation between Russia and Ukraine, but this is not true,” he added.

The Kremlin has accused the U.S. of 'killing Russian children' after a Ukrainian attack on occupied Crimea with long-range missiles supplied by Washington and said there will be 'consequences'.

Moscow has summoned the U.S. ambassador to issue a formal warning, while Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov issued a public statement slamming the U.S. for 'barbaric' strike on Sevastopol, a strategic port city on the Black Sea.

'The involvement of the United States, the direct involvement, as a result of which Russian civilians are killed, cannot be without consequences,' said Peskov.

'Time will tell what these will be.'

'You should ask my colleagues in Europe, and above all in Washington, the press secretaries, why their governments are killing Russian children. Just ask them this question.' the spokesman for Vladimir Putin said.

In a dramatic turn of events, Russia has pointed fingers at the United States, accusing them of bombing Crimea. This bold allegation has sparked international attention, highlighting a striking irony given Russia’s controversial annexation of Crimea from Ukraine in 2014. Russia is claiming that at least four people are dead and over 100 injured.

The annexation of Crimea by Russia in 2014 was widely condemned by the international community as a blatant violation of Ukraine’s sovereignty. Despite protests and sanctions, Russia proceeded with what it termed a “reunification” of Crimea, citing historical and strategic reasons. This move was met with swift and stringent measures from Western nations, including the United States, which condemned Russia’s actions and imposed sanctions that continue to impact diplomatic relations to this day.

Fast forward to the present day, and Russia finds itself accusing the United States of bombing Crimea. This accusation, steeped in geopolitical tensions and historical animosities, underscores the complexities of global power dynamics. It is a stark reminder of the audacity involved in such accusations, especially considering Russia’s own contentious history in the region.

In the realm of international politics, accusations and counter-accusations are not uncommon. However, Russia’s accusation against the United States regarding Crimea’s bombing carries a unique weight given Crimea’s troubled past and ongoing international scrutiny. As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how this latest accusation will impact diplomatic relations and geopolitical stability in the region.

Senate Democrats are feeling exasperated by their inability to stamp out persistent speculation that party leaders have a plan B to replace President Biden atop the Democratic ticket due to concerns about his age and weak poll numbers.

They’re tired of hearing about the hand-wringing of Democratic voters and donors over Biden’s age and electability and sick of reading about Rube Goldberg-like schemes, some of them pushed by Republicans or conservative media, to shake up the Democratic ticket.

One Democratic senator feigned putting a make-believe pistol to their temple when asked about the prospect of yanking Biden off the ticket before the Democratic National Convention in August or the general election in November.

The senator, who requested anonymity, said stories about replacing Biden on the ticket sound “juicy” but are nothing more than a sign that political pundits have “too much time on their hands.”

Former President Donald Trump demanded Monday that President Biden undergo a drug test before Thursday’s first presidential debate — days after predicting that his rival would be “jacked up” on the CNN stage.

“DRUG TEST FOR CROOKED JOE BIDEN??? I WOULD, ALSO, IMMEDIATELY AGREE TO ONE!!!” Trump, 78, wrote on Truth Social after he and his allies had repeatedly suggested that Biden, 81, will be medicated during the Atlanta forum.

Biden has been sequestered since last week at the Camp David presidential retreat in western Maryland, leading to dark suggestions from Republican circles about what the incumbent’s debate preparation may entail.

“There is no universe in which [Biden’s] not being medicated before the debate. If he wants to dispel that, he should offer to take a drug test, but we all know he won’t do that,” one Trump ally told The Post.

A federal appeals court ruled that a mandate under the Affordable Care Act is unconstitutional, but it decided not to halt the requirement.

On June 21, a panel from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit decided that the mandate requiring insurers to cover preventive services like cancer screenings and HIV prevention drugs is unconstitutional.

They argued that because the task force issuing these requirements wasn’t appointed by the president or confirmed by the Senate, the mandate lacks constitutional validity.

The Affordable Care Act, often referred to as Obamacare, mandates coverage for “preventive care” without specifying its definition. Instead, it requires coverage of preventive services and drugs that are rated A or B by the United States Preventive Services Task Force.

Joe Biden's attorney general, Merrick Garland, has been found in contempt of Congress for refusing to turn over evidence from the special counsel investigation that determined Biden illegally kept government records in his home and garage, but recommended against criminal charges.

The reason special counsel Robert Hur gave was Biden's "diminished" capacities, his failing memory where he could not recall when he was vice president.

But the U.S. Department of Justice, or DOJ, refused to take up the referral from Congress, so now a vote could be held in the House of Representatives as early as this week for another prosecution procedure, one that would have the House sergeant at arms arrest Garland and put him on trial before House members.

The growing problem of space debris isn't just one that plagues Earth's orbit. Several instances of space trash crashing back down to Earth have made recent headlines, and one family is requesting that NASA pay for the damages.

The space agency has a claim on its hands after a chunk of space junk crashed through Alejandro Otero's seaside home in Naples, Florida. The incident occurred on March 8, as debris tore through the roof and two floors of his family home, nearly hitting his son, Otero said in a now-deleted post on X

NASA has since confirmed the debris came from a 2.9-ton pallet of used batteries jettisoned from the International Space Station in March of 2021; the structure was expected to burn up completely in Earth's atmosphere. Otero speculated as much in posts online following the incident, and voiced his expectation that the responsible parties be held accountable. "[The Otero family is] grateful that no one sustained physical injuries from this incident, but a 'near miss' situation such as this could have been catastrophic," said Mica Nguyen Worthy in a statement from the law firm representing the family.

CNN presidential debate moderator Jake Tapper’s show is at the center of a defamation suit brought by a consulting company which alleges that the network and one of its reporters lied about the company’s work.

The network’s defense: CNN did not intend to harm and its language was “opinion or ambiguous.”

Tapper is set to co-host the first presidential debate next Thursday which is being hosted by his network. The host has come under scrutiny from former President Donald Trump, who is set to participate in the debate, for his partiality— calling him “Fake [Jake] Tapper.”

But, as the well-known CNN personality gears up for that debate he also finds himself in the middle of a lawsuit against his employer by security consulting firm Nemex Enterprises and its owner Zachary Taylor, who worked to help evacuate Afghanis following the chaotic Taliban takeover of that country.

The two CNN anchors set to host Thursday’s first 2024 presidential debate have previously called Donald Trump’s first term a “national nightmare” and compared his language to that of Adolf Hitler.

“State of the Union” co-hosts Dana Bash and Jake Tapper — who have a long history of criticizing the former president and current presidential candidate — will be responsible for posing questions to both Trump and President Biden at the CNN forum set for 9 p.m. in Atlanta, Ga.

Tapper, the network’s lead Washington anchor, has called the 45th president a “desperate electoral loser” in the past, suggested Trump spread “Russian propaganda” — and has said that if re-elected, the former president will try to “kill democracy.

The case may not be as well known (yet), but CNN could be facing a defamation liability rivaling or exceeding the $787 million Fox News paid out to Dominion Voting Systems. NewsBusters recently reported on Florida’s First District Court of Appeals affirming that plaintiff Zachary Young could seek punitive damages, in addition to economic and emotional damages, from the Cable News Network in a civil trial after they allegedly defamed him regarding his work in getting people out of Afghanistan. The total could near or exceed $1 billion.

For that outcome to be remotely in the cards, Young needed to prove malice and according to the ruling, he’s done exactly that. “Young sufficiently proffered evidence of actual malice, express malice, and a level of conduct outrageous enough to open the door for him to seek punitive damages,” Judge L. Clayton Roberts wrote in the court’s ruling.

The court felt the high bars for actual and expressed malice were met because of internal CNN messages that were extremely vicious toward Young. Correspondent  Alex Marquardt, the “primary reporter” expressed in a message to a colleague that he wanted to “nail this Zachary Young mfucker” and thought the story would be Young’s “funeral.” On that declaration of wanting to “nail” Young, CNN editor Matthew Philips responded: “gonna hold you to that cowboy!”

Alongside Marquardt, CNN senior editor Fuzz Hogan, who’s a member of CNN’s internally lauded “Triad” of editorial, legal, and standards/practices oversight personnel, described Young as “a shit.”

“33 terabytes of juicy banking information containing Americans’ banking secrets,” the group wrote. “You better hire another negotiator within 48 hours, and fire this clinical idiot who values Americans’ bank secrecy at $50,000.”

A top prosecutor who has taken on some of the nation's top political corruption cases dramatically apologized to Trump-appointed Judge Aileen Cannon as Jack Smith's team battled over a proposed gag order Monday.

David Harbach, who led cases against former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards and former Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell issued the stunning statement inside Cannon's courtroom Monday, in a case where Trump critics complain she has repeatedly ruled against the government.

'I just want to apologize about earlier,” Harbach said following a contentious courtroom exchange. “I didn’t mean to be unprofessional. I’m sorry about that.”

It came after he appeared to bristle at questions from Cannon, a U.S. district judge in Florida, in response to her questions about the prosecution's claims of threats to law enforcement personnel and Trump's language about the FBI that fed into the government's request to modify his terms of release.
