"The executive power in our government is not the only, perhaps not even the principal, object of my solicitude. The tyranny of the legislature is really the danger most to be feared, and will continue to be so for many years to come. The tyranny of the executive power will come in its turn, but at a more distant period." -- Thomas Jefferson, Democracy in America

President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Monday that Ukraine has hit more than 30 Russian oil processing and storage facilities.

The Ukrainian military has stepped up attacks on Russian oil infrastructure this year, seeking to disrupt oil supplies to the Russian army and curb Moscow's revenues to finance its war against Ukraine.

"More than 30 oil refineries, terminals, and oil depots of the terrorist state have been hit," Zelenskiy told officers of Special Operations Centre "A" of the State Security Service (SBU) involved in attacks.

He did not provide any additional details or give a time period. A video of his address was shared on his account on X.

Ukraine has been using its long-range drones, developed both by military intelligence and the SBU, for the strikes.

President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Monday he had replaced the commander of the Joint Forces of Ukraine's Armed Forces, Lieutenant-General Yuri Sodol, after reports surfaced that he had performed badly in the 28-month-old war against Russia.

Zelenskiy, speaking in his nightly video address, gave no reason for the dismissal. He said Sodol had been replaced by Brigadier-General Andriy Hnatov in the post, which involves strategic planning of operations.

Sodol's removal, one of a series of personnel changes, followed publication of a letter by the head of Ukraine's revered Azov regiment, Bohdan Krotevych, in which he alleged that Sodol's actions had led to serious military setbacks.

In a post on the Telegram messaging app, Krotevych did not identify Sodol by name, but said an unnamed general "has killed more Ukrainian soldiers than any Russian general."

Polish President Andrzej Duda said on Monday during a visit to Beijing that he hoped China would help find a solution for peace in Ukraine that respects international law.

China did not attend a Ukraine peace summit organised in Switzerland this month, saying it did not meet its expectations that included both Russia and Ukraine taking part. Russia, which launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, was not invited and denounced the gathering as a sham.

Diplomats told Reuters this month that China had been lobbying governments with an alternative peace plan for Ukraine.

"I presented our point of view on the security situation in Europe and the world, above all in our part of Europe," Duda told reporters after a meeting Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing.

"I hope that China will... support efforts to strive for a peaceful end to the war waged by Russia in Ukraine," he said, adding that any such peace must respect international law and Ukraine's internationally recognised borders.

Webmaster addition: That is not going to happen and I don't see China reacting positively to being treated like a messenger.

A state commission of inquiry investigating the so-called submarine affair on Monday sent warning notices to five individuals it believes may be negatively impacted by the probe, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Navy chief Ram Rothberg, in order to allow them to submit additional testimony and view evidence relating to their conduct.

Netanyahu, the commission charged, took decisions that endangered national security and harmed Israel’s foreign relations.

The commission, formed under former premier Naftali Bennett in 2022, has spent more than two years probing submarine and naval vessel purchases that occurred under a previous Netanyahu government.

Israel purchased the vessels from German shipbuilder Thyssenkrupp in a series of murky deals worth some $2 billion that have been under scrutiny for possible corruption and bribery.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken appeared to caution Israel against launching a major offensive against Hezbollah during his meeting on Tuesday with visiting Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.

Blinken “underscored the importance of avoiding further escalation of the conflict and reaching a diplomatic resolution that allows both Israeli and Lebanese families to return to their homes,” the State Department said in its readout on the secretary’s meeting with Gallant.

The top US diplomat’s warning was the latest from a top Biden official, as the administration seeks to prevent a full-fledged war between Israel and Hezbollah, which began launching near-daily attacks on the north following Hamas’s October 7 onslaught.

"We, the People" have more power than we know - The Idaho farmers are going to be able to water their crops this year after all thanks to the outcry of the citizens of Idaho. BUT - get ready because those who are buying up the land are trying to starve farmers out of business- Additionally those in the so-called "Green" industry could not care less about whether Americans have enough food for the table - so next year - they will try to create a monopoly again. Green energy is not capable of energizing this country, and certainly not worth starving the American people for.

Nigel Farage has hit back at Boris Johnson after the former prime minister accused the Reform UK leader of a “morally repugnant” repetition of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s justification for the invasion of Ukraine.

The Reform UK leader addressed crowds in Maidstone, Kent, while on the campaign trail, saying that he would “never, ever defend” Mr Putin and that he had been “more far-sighted” in predicting a war in Ukraine.

Mr Farage, who has been criticised for saying the West “provoked” the war in Ukraine, told the crowd: “I was alone, I was the only person in 2014 who said there will be a war in Ukraine. I can’t take those words away and nor would I want to.”

The list also covers various transportation, logistics, construction, insurance, manufacturing companies; research and educational institutions; and resorts. Many of the entities are registered in Crimea. One is registered in the UK.

The sanctions are imposed for a period of 10 years and include such measures as the freezing of assets and the ban on transferring capital outside Ukraine.

The US authorities do not want civilian deaths and will discuss the issue with Kiev, Pentagon spokesman Patrick Ryder said, commenting on the Russian side's statements on the terrorist attack in Sevastopol.

"Ultimately I'd refer you to Ukraine to talk about their operations. You know, they make their own decisions when it comes to operations and targeting. We don't have any information to indicate whether or not civilians were killed," he said in response to a journalist's question about the terrorist attack in Sevastopol. "Certainly, you know, as I understand it, that's something that we will talk to the Ukrainians about. It's - we've been very clear about, you know, we don't want to see civilian casualties," Ryder said.

"If they (the Russians - TASS) are concerned about casualties among their forces then they should stop this war immediately and return Ukraine's sovereign territory versus throwing their forces unnecessarily into this," the Pentagon spokesman added. When asked if the US had provided the Ukrainian military with intelligence to select targets before the attack, Ryder said, "I'd refer you to them on any of their operations."

Webmaster addition: If the US doesn't want civilian deaths STOP SENDING WEAPONS!

Nigel Farage has hit back at Boris Johnson after the former prime minister labelled him "morally repugnant" over comments he made about the war in Ukraine. The Reform UK leader accused Mr Johnson of "hypocrisy" as he brandished a copy of a newspaper front page from 2016 that read: "Boris blames EU for war in Ukraine". Appearing on top of a campaign bus in Maidstone, Kent, Mr Farage pointed out that the former London mayor once blamed Russia's invasion of Crimea in 2014 on policies in Brussels.

French President Emmanuel Macron has said he would continue the dialogue with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.

"I would continue the dialogue with Vladimir Putin," he said on the Generation Do It Yourself podcast. "No, we haven't [communicated] in recent months, but I don't exclude the possibility of talking about one issue or another," he said.

The French leader pointed out that he "believes in the power of dialogue." "I speak with absolute sincerity: I believe it is always important to continue the dialogue," the president said.

Macron added that he would discuss with the Russian leader, in particular, "the issue of nuclear power plants," without explaining what exactly he meant.

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has been released from prison in the United Kingdom and is flying to Australia, WikiLeaks said.

Earlier in the day, court documents revealed that Assange is expected to plead guilty to a US espionage charge as part of a plea deal with federal prosecutors.

"Julian Assange is free. He left Belmarsh maximum security prison on the morning of 24 June, after having spent 1901 days there. He was granted bail by the High Court in London and was released at Stansted airport during the afternoon, where he boarded a plane and departed the UK," WikiLeaks said on X.

The statement confirmed reports that Assange has a deal with the US Department of Justice, which is yet to be formally finalized.

Assange, an Australian citizen, was transferred to London's high-security Belmarsh prison in April 2019 on bail breach charges. In the US, he faced prosecution under the Espionage Act for obtaining and disclosing classified information that shed light on war crimes and human rights violations committed by US troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The French president added that he "understands well" the fear and concerns of the French in this regard.

Precious few exposed areas on Earth offer researchers an opportunity to directly observe our planet’s ancient crust. Australia, boasting some of the world’s oldest rocks, possesses such zones.

Australia’s ancient rocks have helped scientists find remnants of our planet Earth’s "original" crust, new research has revealed.

The Earth formed around 4.5 billion years ago from the crystallization of the surface magma ocean.

Continental crust, rich in mineral resources, now covers 41 percent of our planet’s surface, but it is mostly deeply buried.

A team of scientists from the School of Earth and Planetary Sciences, Curtin University, Perth, hit upon a method of peering into that deep primordial crust.

There is tremendous popular pressure on Moscow to retaliate against the US over Sunday’s ATACMS missile strike on a beach near Sevastopol, former US Congressman Ron Paul has said.

Five civilians were killed and over 150 injured by cluster munitions from a US-supplied missile launched by Ukrainian forces. Among the dead were at least two children.

Paul, a retired lawmaker from Texas, described the strike as “a Ukrainian and American attack on Russia” on Monday’s Ron Paul Liberty Report. He added that some kind of escalation was inevitable after the US supplied long-range missiles to Ukraine and gave Kiev permission to use them for strikes deep inside Russia.

“What’s Russia going to do about this?” Paul asked. “Are they going to twiddle their thumbs and walk away? They might – for a day or two – ponder it, but there will be something that they’re going to do.”

Over the past three years, millions of migrants have come pouring into this country looking for a better life.  They were promised that things would be so much better once they got here, but for so many of them that has turned out to be not true at all.  There just aren’t enough resources to care for the vast number of migrants that are arriving, and as a result many quickly find themselves homeless.  It is a tragedy of monumental proportions, and it is getting worse with each passing day.

The Russian Aerospace Forces struck a major logistics center of the Ukrainian Armed Forces over the past 24 hours, where Western-supplied missiles were stored, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported on Monday.

"Operational-tactical aviation, unmanned aerial vehicles, missile troops, and artillery units of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation have targeted a large logistics hub of the Ukrainian Armed Forces,” the statement said.

“This center was used for the accumulation, storage, and redistribution of weapons, including missile systems provided by Western countries to the Kiev regime,” it added. “Additionally, we have targeted concentrations of enemy personnel and military equipment in 112 areas."

Needless to say, conducting planetary defense exercises against wandering asteroids is probably a good idea, and I don't think anyone - Mssrs. Putin, Medvedev, Xi, Modi, or Scholz included - would object to it:

NASA’s preventative doomsday approach reached new heights with a test simulating a hypothetical asteroid set to hit Earth in 2038, according to a report released this week.

The simulation was the fifth installment of the Planetary Defense Interagency Tabletop Exercise, wherein NASA, the U.S. government and international representatives attempted to plan for an asteroid that had a 72% chance of hitting Earth in 14 years’ time.

Oh... wait... except the drill  was not about defending the planet from a potential asteroid impact... it appears to have been more about what to do if attempts to divert or destroy such an asteroid had failed and an impact had occurred:

“A large asteroid impact is potentially the only natural disaster humanity has the technology to predict years in advance and take action to prevent.”

Within the exercise, asteroid sizes ranged from 60 to 800 meters, with the most likely result between 100 and 320 meters.

According to The Washington Post, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and other agencies had access to information from the mail of tens of thousands of private citizens.

The Post’s Drew Harwell reported Monday that the “U.S. Postal Service (USPS) has shared information from thousands of Americans’ letters and packages with law enforcement every year for the past decade.”

Harwell noted that in doing so, the USPS has been “conveying the names, addresses and other details from the outside of boxes and envelopes without requiring a court order.”

A “decade’s worth of records … in response to a congressional probe, show Postal Service officials have received more than 60,000 requests from federal agents and police officers since 2015,” Harwell added. Per these records, USPS officials “rarely say no” to the requests.

The Wall Street Journal and other media have announced that the Supreme Court decided on Monday to hear the Biden Administration’s challenge to Tennessee’s law prohibiting “gender transition care.”

According to The Wall Street Journal article, the Department of Justice contended that the Tennessee law infringes on the Constitution’s equal protection clause. It argued that the law discriminates by prohibiting medical treatments exclusively if they’re for gender dysphoria while allowing the same treatments for other conditions, such as precocious puberty.

A federal appeals court in Cincinnati dismissed that argument, with Chief Judge Jeffrey Sutton of the Sixth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals writing, “The unsettled, developing, in truth still experimental, nature of treatments in this area surely permits more than one policy approach, and the Constitution does not favor one over the other.”

The Iron Dome sure did cost US taxpayers a lot of money.

Interestingly, it also appears to be totally worthless.

It can’t even stop Hamas, let alone Hezbollah, let alone Iran.

Was this money all just embezzled? Or is this the real Iron Dome?

Total US spending on the Iron Dome is allegedly only $2.6 billion. It seems to have been a lot more money than that. But paying a foreign country $2.6 billion for a missile defense system that doesn’t work seems really irresponsible, even if that is the full amount.

Why was the US paying for Israeli defense in the first place?
