Thought for the day

"All men recognize the right of revolution; that is, the right to refuse allegiance to, and to resist, the government, when its tyranny or its inefficiency are great and unendurable." -- Henry David Thoreau (1942). "Civil Disobedience"

Officials in President Joe Biden’s White House are worried that an “open borders” narrative among migrants waiting in Mexico will set a new illegal immigration record as the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) ends the Title 42 border control.

This month, a federal judge struck down Title 42 — the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) authority first imposed by former President Trump in 2020 to allow Border Patrol agents to quickly remove illegal aliens arriving at the U.S.-Mexico border.

Rather than appealing the judge’s decision, Biden’s DHS Secretary, Alejandro Mayorkas, asked the court for five weeks to wind down Title 42.

While Biden officials are still weighing what to do as Title 42’s end looms, Axios’s Stef Kight reports that they are concerned that an open borders narrative will reach migrants in Mexico, Central America, and South America and surge illegal immigration to a new record.

President Biden ignored a reporter’s question Thursday about whether he had a message for protesters challenging China’s authoritarian government — while first son Hunter Biden reportedly still co-owns a Chinese state-backed investment fund.

NBC reporter Peter Alexander asked Biden at the end of a White House press conference with visiting French President Emmanuel Macron if he would share a message with demonstrators calling for an end to China’s COVID-19 lockdowns and, in some instances, the resignation of “president for life” Xi Jinping.

“Sir, do you have a message to protesters in China? You spoke about [recent protests in] Iran,” Alexander said from the front row of press seats about 15 feet from Biden.

The 80-year-old leader of the free world clearly heard the inquiry but didn’t respond, instead looking at his feet as he dismounted his podium and walked out of the White House East Room.

In response, Weiner tweeted what he claimed to be a hateful, anti-LGBTQ message he received in response to Kirk's thread.

"Not even 24 hours after MAGA grifter Charlie Kirk tweeted homophobic lies about me, I received this thread repeating one of his lies."

Except, there's a cursor at the bottom of the message, and grammar suggestions are underlined - leading many to accuse the California lawmaker of faking the entire thing.

The Colorado Secretary of State’s Office has ordered a mandatory recount of the results for the race of Colorado Congressional District 3 between incumbent GOP Rep. Lauren Boebert and Democrat Adam Frisch.

Under Colorado law, a recount is mandatory if the margin between the two top finishers is 0.5% or less of the leading candidate’s vote total. Colorado Secretary of State’s Office informed all 27 counties within the congressional district to begin preparations for the recount, which must be completed by Dec. 13.

“The results of the District 3 race reinforce the fact that every vote matters,” Secretary of State Jena Griswold said in a statement. “Colorado voters have made their voices heard, and I am ordering this recount in accordance with Colorado law to confirm the will of the voters.”

Frisch conceded defeat to Boebert in late November and said he supported the process but didn’t want supporters to get “false hope.”

President Joe Biden was called out by one of his fellow Democrats on Wednesday night for ordering Maine lobster for tonight's state dinner with the French president - while rolling out regulations making it harder for everyday Americans to get their hands on the luxury food.

Democrat Rep. Jared Golden of Maine's 2nd Congressional District was responding to a report that 200 live lobsters were sent to the White House for the Thursday night event.

He demanded that Biden meet with lobster fishermen to discuss the new fishing rules - which the moderate congressman warned could put them 'out of business.'

It's called "refund shock," and many taxpayers can expect to see it when they file their 2022 tax returns.

As KDKA-TV money editor Jon Delano explains, there may not be a lot most of us can do about it.

Thanks to pandemic relief measures passed by Congress in the last year of the Trump administration, and especially during the first year of the Biden administration, many Americans got very big tax refunds earlier this year. But don't count on a repeat.

"We call it refund shock or refund whiplash, and really it has to do with a lot of the tax benefits put in place last year as part of the way to combat the pandemic – a lot bigger credits, a lot more credits,  stimulus money – a lot of that went away at the start of this year," says Mark Steber, chief tax information officer for Jackson Hewitt.

A large satellite that’s designed to beam internet to consumer cell phones is now one of the brightest objects in the night sky—much to the chagrin of the astronomical community.

Their concerns revolve around the prototype BlueWalker 3 satellite from Texas-based AST SpaceMobile. Earlier this month, BlueWalker 3 fully deployed itself, resulting in the satellite’s massive 693-foot communication array unfolding over Earth’s orbit.

The International Astronomical Union—which is made up of 12,000 members—now says it’s “troubled” by the satellite’s “unprecedented brightness,” especially since AST SpaceMobile has plans to launch dozens of additional BlueWalker-like satellites in the future.

“New measurements reveal that this low Earth orbiting satellite is now one of the brightest objects in the night sky, outshining all but the brightest stars,” the IAU said(Opens in a new window) in a statement on Monday. As evidence, the group provided several images that show BlueWalker 3 creating satellite streaks in the night sky, which can disrupt and photo-bomb telescopic observations.

House Democratic Caucus Chairman Hakeem Jeffries, who was elected Wednesday by House Democrats to succeed Speaker Nancy Pelosi, said during the 2020 presidential election that Tara Reade’s sexual assault allegation against President Biden "needs to be investigated seriously."

Jeffries made headlines in April 2020 after he broke with his party to lend credibility to the claims made by Reade, a former Biden staffer who accused Biden of cornering her in a Senate office building in 1993 and sexually assaulting her.

Multiple people have corroborated parts of Reade’s story since she first spoke out on March 25, 2020, but Biden and his campaign vehemently denied the claims.

Problems with the election in Arizona have Republicans furious, and a majority of voters nationwide agree that the “sacred right to vote” is at risk.

Judicial Watch announced that it filed an opposition to the U.S. Capitol Police’s (USCP) effort to shut down Judicial Watch’s federal lawsuit for January 6 videos and emails. Through its police department, Congress argues that the videos and emails are not public records, there is no public interest in their release, and that “sovereign immunity” prevents citizens from suing for their release.

Judicial Watch filed a lawsuit under the common law right of access after the Capitol Police refused to provide any records in response to a January 21, 2021, request (Judicial Watch v. United States Capitol Police (No. 1:21-cv-00401)). Judicial Watch asks for:

  • Email communications between the U.S. Capitol Police Executive Team and the Capitol Police Board concerning the security of the Capitol on January 6, 2021. The timeframe of this request is from January 1, 2021 through January 10, 2021.
  • Email communications of the Capitol Police Board with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the U.S. Department of Justice, and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security concerning the security of the Capitol on January 6, 2021. The timeframe of this request is from January 1, 2021through January 10, 2021.
  • All video footage from within the Capitol between 12 pm and 9 pm on January 6, 2021

Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov says NATO is fanning the flames of tension in the South China Sea in a fashion detrimental to Russia, warning that the US-led Western military coalition has reverted to its Cold War priorities.

Speaking at a press conference on European security issues on Thursday, Lavrov said the South China Sea has turned into one of those regions “where NATO is no averse,” as the military bloc “once did in Ukraine, to escalating tensions.”

China claims sovereignty over virtually all of the South China Sea, which is also claimed in part by Taiwan, Brunei, Vietnam, Malaysia, and the Philippines. The waters are believed to sit atop vast reserves of oil and gas.

“We know how seriously China takes such provocations, not to mention Taiwan and the Taiwan Strait, and we understand that NATO's playing with fire in these regions carries threats and risks for the Russian Federation. It is as close to our shores and to our seas as Chinese territory,” Russia's top diplomat stated.

The Memorandum of Understanding, which was signed in Washington, means that an investment platform is made available to the Ukrainian government. The establishment will take place according to “a roadmap that Financial Markets Advisory, a company in the BlackRock group, will develop in consultation with the Ministry of Economy”.

The statement stated that BlackRock’s advice will focus on the “platform structure, mandate and governance”. The platform “will focus on mobilizing investments in key sectors of the Ukrainian economy,” the statement continued.

“It is very important for us to show the whole world that war does not prevent investment in Ukraine. After all, investments are the key to a future rapid and effective economic recovery,” says Ukrainian Economy Minister Yulia Svyrydenko. “We expect a lot from the collaboration with BlackRock’s FMA division [Financial Markets Advisory]. We hope that this restart platform will be an effective mechanism to mobilize investment in key sectors of our economy,” she added.

Once society, or at least the elite parts, decide that men can be women and women can be men because they wish it so, many other things, once thought unthinkable, become a reality.

One such incredible thing has become a reality thanks to a decision of the Irish Parliament, according to Newsmax.

“A vending machine that gives out free tampons has been installed in a men’s bathroom in Leinster House, Ireland’s parliament building.

"It’s really hard for a lot of people right now," Malek said. "I’m not here to point fingers. I want to be part of the solution."

UPDATE: On the morning of September 21st Phil Giraldi was fired over the phone by The American Conservative, where he had been a regular contributor for fourteen years. He was told that “America’s Jews Are Driving America’s Wars” was unacceptable. The TAC management and board appear to have forgotten that the magazine was launched with an article by founder Pat Buchanan entitled “Whose War?” which largely made the same claims that Giraldi made about the Jewish push for another war, in that case with Iraq. Buchanan was vilified and denounced as an anti-Semite by many of the same people who are now similarly attacking Giraldi.

I spoke recently at a conference on America’s war party where afterwards an elderly gentleman came up to me and asked, “Why doesn’t anyone ever speak honestly about the six-hundred-pound gorilla in the room? Nobody has mentioned Israel in this conference and we all know it’s American Jews with all their money and power who are supporting every war in the Middle East for Netanyahu? Shouldn’t we start calling them out and not letting them get away with it?”
