You are a den of vipers. I intend to rout you out and by the Eternal God I will rout you out. If the people only understood the rank injustice of our money and banking system, there would be a revolution before morning.

Axios reported on Monday that the US told Iran it had no involvement or advanced knowledge of the Israeli airstrike that targeted a consulate building next to the Iranian embassy in Damascus, Syria.

A senior US official said the US had sent the message “directly to Iran.” The US has a history of approving Israeli airstrikes in Syria, but US and Israeli officials insist that the US was only notified of the strike minutes before it was launched.

The officials said Israel was not looking for a green light from the US and that little detail was shared. The strike took place before Secretary of State Antony Blinken and National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan began a video conference with Israeli officials to discuss Israel’s plans to attack the southern Gaza city of Rafah.

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg will propose establishing a $100 billion five-year fund for Ukraine when the alliance’s foreign ministers meet on Wednesday, multiple media outlets reported on Tuesday.

The idea is to lock in long-term support for Ukraine amid uncertainty around US aid to Ukraine as the $60 billion President Biden is seeking for the proxy still hasn’t been authorized by Congress.

The plan is also meant to prevent any future US president from withdrawing support from Ukraine. Financial Times described it as “Trump-proofing” the proxy war as the former president has expressed opposition to the conflict, although he recently floated the idea of providing Ukraine with loans.

Webmaster addition: The US pays 22% of NATO's budget. This is just a way to get the money without Congressional approval!

On March 25, the United Nations Security Council passed a resolution demanding “an immediate ceasefire for the month of Ramadan respected by all parties leading to a lasting sustainable ceasefire.” Passage of the resolution was made possible by the U.S. decision to reign in its veto and, instead, abstain from the vote.

In her explanation of the American vote after the resolution passed, U.S. Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield shocked the council by declaring the resolution “nonbinding.” A nonbinding Security Council resolution is a contradiction, since a Security Council resolution, by definition, is binding. That is the power of the Security Council and the key difference between resolutions passed in the Security Council and in the General Assembly. Article 25 of the United Nations Charter says, “The Members of the United Nations agree to accept and carry out the decisions of the Security Council in accordance with the present Charter.”

Her comment was not a spontaneous, unprepared slip. It was scripted. In a March 25 press briefing following the vote and Thomas-Greenfield’s claim, White House National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby called the resolution “nonbinding” no less than four times. “It’s a nonbinding resolution,” he said. “So, there’s no impact at all on Israel and Israel’s ability to continue to go after Hamas.” At a State Department press briefing the same day, department spokesperson Matt Miller called the resolution “nonbinding” three times.

When the Washington Post revealed Friday afternoon that “the Biden administration in recent days quietly authorized the transfer of billions of dollars in bombs and fighter jets to Israel,” a lot of people cared. Readers of the story posted more than 10,000 comments on its webpage. A leading progressive site for breaking news, Common Dreams, quickly followed up with coverage under a headline that began with the word “obscene.” Responses on social media were swift and strong; a tweet about the Post scoop from our team at RootsAction received more than 600,000 views.

But at the New York Times – the nation’s purported newspaper of record – one day after another went by as the editors determined that the story about the massive new transfer of weaponry to Israel wasn’t worth reporting on at all. Yet it was solid. A Reuters dispatch said that two sources “confirmed” the Post’s report.

By omission, the New York Times gave a boost to a process of normalizing the slaughter in Gaza, as if shipping vast quantities of 2,000-pound bombs for use to take the lives of Palestinian civilians is unremarkable and unnewsworthy. Just another day at the genocide office.

Ukrainian drones attacked Taneco, Russia's third largest oil refinery, on Tuesday about 1,300 km (800 miles) from the front lines, hitting a core unit which processes about 155,000 barrels per day (bpd) of crude.

As of the end of March, around 14% of Russia's primary oil refining capacity had been knocked out by Ukrainian drone attacks, according to Reuters calculations.

Which refineries have been targeted, what damage have they sustained and what do they produce?

The Pentagon opened its Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Cyber Policy on March 20, the Department of Defense announced in a Friday notice.

The office, which was mandated in a must-pass 2023 defense policy bill, aims to give the U.S. military a more civilian-facing role into the world of cyber policy. It will be headed by Ashley Manning — the former acting deputy assistant secretary of defense — on a temporary basis until a permanent nominee is confirmed.

President Joe Biden last Friday tapped Michael Sulmeyer to be assistant secretary of defense for cyber policy and head up the new office. His confirmation still awaits consideration in the Senate.

The FY2023 defense package required that the presidentially appointed cyber position be created amid concerns that the Pentagon wasn’t focused enough on bringing forth a civilian lead to tackle such matters. Sulmeyer previously served in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, the National Security Council and Cyber Command, according to the White House.
