The U.S. Supreme Court has turned down a challenge to Texas voting rules that let seniors automatically vote by mail but not younger people.

Older voters can ask for an absentee ballot for any reason in Texas, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, and Tennessee. In other states, older voters can only do this in certain situations.

Just as it rejected a similar challenge to Indiana’s voting laws in 2021, the court on Monday declined to hear an appeal from three Texas voters. Additionally, it twice declined to hear earlier versions of the Texas lawsuit that the Texas Democratic Party had filed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The challengers argued that the 26th Amendment forbids age-based discrimination, which is what the unequal treatment of voters amounts to, USA Today reported.

YouTube's Content ID system—which automatically detects content registered by rightsholders—is "completely fucking broken," a YouTuber called "Albino" declared in a rant on X (formerly Twitter) viewed more than 950,000 times.

Albino, who is also a popular Twitch streamer, complained that his YouTube video playing through Fallout was demonetized because a Samsung washing machine randomly chimed to signal a laundry cycle had finished while he was streaming.

Apparently, YouTube had automatically scanned Albino's video and detected the washing machine chime as a song called "Done"—which Albino quickly saw was uploaded to YouTube by a musician known as Audego nine years ago.

But when Albino hit play on Audego's song, the only thing that he heard was a 30-second clip of the washing machine chime. To Albino it was obvious that Audego didn't have any rights to the jingle, which Dexerto reported actually comes from the song "Die Forelle" ("The Trout") from Austrian composer Franz Schubert.

The song was composed in 1817 and is in the public domain. Samsung has used it to signal the end of a wash cycle for years, sparking debate over whether it's the catchiest washing machine song and inspiring at least one violinist to perform a duet with her machine. It's been a source of delight for many Samsung customers, but for Albino, hearing the jingle appropriated on YouTube only inspired ire.

"A guy recorded his fucking washing machine and uploaded it to YouTube with Content ID," Albino said in a video on X. "And now I'm getting copyright claims" while "my money" is "going into the toilet and being given to this fucking slime."

Former President Donald Trump on Friday announced a sizeable fundraising haul in the wake of his guilty verdict in Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's hush money case.

A New York jury on Thursday found Trump guilty on 34 counts of falsifying business records after a weeks-long trial. The verdict appears to have energized his supporters, however, as the campaign's donation page crashed, evidently due to the volume of traffic.

The campaign on Friday announced it had brought in $34.8 million in small dollar donations, marking a near-doubling of its single largest day total on WinRed.

"From just minutes after the sham trial verdict was announced, our digital fundraising system was overwhelmed with support, and despite temporary delays online because of the amount of traffic, President Trump raised $34.8 million dollars from small dollar donors," said Trump Campaign Senior Advisors Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles.

Predictably, the Kremlin is fuming at widespread reports that the Biden administration has made a U-turn on its policy which previously prohibited Ukraine from attack Russian soil with US-supplied weaponry.

Former Russian president and current Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev has warned that Russian forces could strike back from any point where attacks are launched, including on "NATO specialists" advising Ukraine forces.

Recent polling does not look good for Joe Biden. The Democrat is trailing Trump in must-win swing states. Even “reliable” states could break for the Republican candidate. Biden is sagging thanks to a terrible approval rating, failed policies, broken promises, and signs of cognitive decline.

But, don’t worry, Jill Biden is going to save the day! The woman who called San Antonio Latinos “breakfast tacos” is going to salvage Biden’s campaign.

During an interview, she tried to throw some shade at Trump. The woman pulled out a tired and already failed argument against Trump. Meanwhile, she made a bogus claim about her husband. And users pounced hard.

From Fox News:
“We have a choice, this is what I’m out there saying. We have a choice we can have my husband who is calm, and steady and strong and has character and integrity or we have the other choice, which is chaotic.”…

“This doesn’t work this time. Does anything feel calm?” conservative commentator Stephen L. Miller posted on X.

“Narrator: He’s incredibly weak, has a history of anger problems, and has so little integrity that he can’t give a simple speech without telling multiple, already-debunked lies,” Red State writer Bonchie posted on X.

Jill Biden claimed Joe Biden was “calm,” “steady,” and “strong.” She also said the man who has been rocked by countless family scandals had “character and integrity.” It seems Biden’s character and integrity runs out when it comes to keeping classified documents in his garage.

It’s clear that the Biden campaign is grasping at straws. Joe is suffering from terrible approval numbers. Swing states are turning on him, based on recent polls. Most Americans are blaming Biden for a lousy economy and many other problems.

For a while, Democrats tried to make abortion their main focus. But that hasn’t seemed to work.

Now, Biden is going back to an old standby: race-baiting. The man who once insulted black people by saying they “ain’t black” if they vote for Trump is now trying to manipulate black voters. Trying to cover for bad policies that have hurt black workers, he made this promise about the Supreme Court.

From Fox News:
President Biden on Wednesday promised to nominate progressives to the Supreme Court if he wins a second term in the White House…

“The next president, they’re going to be able to appoint a couple justices, and I’ll be damned — if in fact we’re able to change some of the justices when they retire and put in really progressive judges like we’ve always had, tell me that won’t change your life,” Biden told his audience…

First lady Jill Biden said Wednesday there would be disastrous results and a loss of human rights if Trump is re-elected in November.

“We will lose all of our rights,” she said on “The View.”

Whoever is writing Joe Biden’s speeches needs to be fired. While speaking at a “Black Voters for Biden-Harris” rally, Biden claimed he would appoint progressive justices to the Supreme Court. He claimed he would put “really progressive” judges, stating “we’ve always had” justices like that.

This comes off as yet another desperate grab by the failing president. Joe promised to “build back better” in 2020. Today, black Americans (along with many others) are seeing their jobs evaporate and their wages slashed. Biden’s 8 million illegal aliens are trying away jobs and forcing Americans to compete for housing, medical care, and basic resources.

The jury in corrupt Judge Juan Merchan’s kangaroo court found President Trump guilty of 34 felonies on Thursday afternoon. Each felony conviction could land President Trump in prison for four years.

Judge Merchan told jurors they did not have to agree on a crime. This is unheard of in US history. The jury only had to agree something bad happened. This, of course, is completely unconstitutional.

This was clearly the greatest travesty of justice in American history.

So now we have a convicted US President with 34 felony counts and NO ONE knows what crime President Trump committed!

The jury never explained what crime Trump committed and was not required to explain what crime Trump committed.

Jonathan Turley spoke about this on Thursday following the verdicts.

Physics is in a crisis. Over the past year, a series of research papers claimed to find evidence for high-temperature superconductors – materials that conduct electricity without losses, which could revolutionise global energy use. These were retracted after all efforts to reproduce them failed, and in some cases original data was shown to have been falsified. Now, physicists are sounding the alarm about a wider reproducibility crisis in their field.

The jury returned a verdict in Alvin Bragg’s lawfare ‘hush money’ trial on Thursday: Guilty on all 34 counts!

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg indicted Trump in April 2023 on 34 felony counts related to ‘hush payments’ he made to Stormy Daniels.

Trump was accused of paying porn star Stormy Daniels, AKA, Stephanie Clifford, ‘hush payments’ through his then-attorney Michael Cohen in a scheme to silence her and stop the story about their alleged affair from being published in the National Enquirer.

The jury deliberations began on Wednesday after Judge Merchan instructed them to choose among the three predicate crimes Trump supposedly committed.

After deliberating for several hours on Thursday, the jury returned a guilty verdict after the judge rigged the trial by allowing jurors to choose which crime they believed Trump committed.

Trump is facing four years in prison for every count.

The sentencing was set for July 11 – Three days before the Republican convention!

The US Department of State lied to Congress when it said Israel was not restricting the flow of aid into Gaza, a former official has claimed after resigning in protest.

Stacy Gilbert served in the State Department’s Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration for 20 years. She left her job as a senior adviser on Tuesday, citing objections in relation to a 46-page memo titled NSM-20, which was provided to US lawmakers on May 10, she told Reuters and The Guardian.

In the memo, the State Department said Israel had not breached a US law that prohibits the provision of arms to nations that restrict American humanitarian aid.

Gilbert was one of the experts consulted for the report and says the conclusion did not correspond to reality.

In a bold move, Dmitry Suslov, a top figure at the Moscow-based Council for Foreign and Defence Policy, has floated the idea of Russia carrying out a "demonstrative" nuclear detonation.

This alarming suggestion arises as tensions with the West intensify due to Ukraine's use of Western-supplied weaponry against Russian forces.

Suslov, whose think tank occasionally sways Kremlin policy, made this proposal shortly after President Vladimir Putin delivered a stark warning to NATO countries.

Yemen’s Houthis claim to have launched an attack on a US air carrier in response to earlier British and American strikes on its military bases.

The militant group claimed to have attacked the USS Dwight D Eisenhower ship in the Red Sea following strikes by London and Washington on targets in Yemen.

In a televised address Yahya Saree, the Houthis military spokesman, also claimed that six US and British strikes have killed 16 people and wounded 41, including civilians

On Thursday, British and American forces struck Houthi targets in Yemen as part of an ongoing operation against the group’s targeting of commercial ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.

Forget the dead for a moment and think about the living. We’re talking about a minuscule, 25-mile strip of land on which, before recent events began, an estimated 2.4 million people lived, went to school, worshiped, farmed, did whatever. When Israel responded to Hamas’s nightmarish October 7th attack by bombing northern Gaza into rubble and sending in its military, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant vowed a “complete siege” of the region with “no electricity, no food, no fuel” for what he called “human animals.” The Israeli military did indeed promptly proceed to destroy most of the homes, schools, and hospitals, you name it in northern Gaza, while encouraging hundreds of thousands of its inhabitants to flee south, many of whom finally ended up in the city of Rafah, where an estimated nearly 1.4 million refugees were lodged, often in crude tent encampments.

Now, jump seven months or so and the Israeli military is, step by step, moving into and destroying parts of Rafah, while once again encouraging its population to flee. In the first weeks after they began doing so, it was estimated that at least one million (yes, 1,000,000!) Gazans did indeed flee that city. As Philippe Lazzarini, head of the chief U.N. agency that aids Palestinians, described it, “Every time they are forced to leave behind the few belongings they have: mattresses, tents, cooking utensils, and basic supplies that they cannot carry or pay to transport.”

And it’s not just the Muslim Gazans who are suffering. The small Christian community there has been brutalized and largely destroyed, too. Talk about a hell on earth! Worse yet, as of now, there’s no end in sight and – imagine this – the Biden administration nonetheless continues to plan to send vast quantities of new weaponry to Israel.

US news publication The Atlantic has received heavy criticism in recent days over the publication of an article earlier this month that seemed to argue for the legality of killing Palestinian children during wartime.

The article, written by The Atlantic's staff writer and Yale University lecturer Graeme Wood, was published on May 17 and tried to cast doubt on the UN's recent statistics on the Gaza war.

In his criticism of the casualty figures reported by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the writer was accused of trying to play down Gaza's devastating humanitarian crisis and potentially justifying violence against civilians, particularly children.

Wood's article has since resurfaced online this week which has further elicited backlash by critics.

Here is The New Arab's breakdown of the controversial piece and why some have criticised Wood.

UK denies medical treatment to critically injured children from Gaza

By Dania Akkad

“We have not asked the UK to take all of them or the majority of them, but just to play its part as a wealthy nation with incredible medical expertise,” said Krish Kandiah, founder of the UK-based Sanctuary Foundation, which supports Ukrainian and Afghan refugees, among others.

“We just want to play our part.”

British doctors and organisations, including Kandiah’s, who are part of an initiative called Project Pure Hope, told Middle East Eye that they began efforts in January to bring four siblings and their cousin from Gaza as a "test case" to see what would happen.

One of the siblings, whose parents were killed, had suffered traumatic amputations and required further medical treatment, which pediatric hospitals across Britain were prepared to provide.

Over £500,000 ($636,000) was raised, enough to cover their treatment, and arrangements were made for the children’s aunt and grandmother to accompany them, according to those involved.

The issue was visas.

“We made many, many attempts to try to get a visa for these children and, sadly, despite many good-hearted civil servants, when it got to the highest level, we just heard nothing back,” Kandiah told MEE.

Five months later, with British hospitals and medical professionals still at the ready, Kandiah and others say they are unaware of any legal pathways available to bring these children to the UK, nor have they heard of any Palestinian children seeking medical treatment being admitted.

Claire's Observations:  It is obvious that the UK has received it's "marching orders" from Tel Aviv; "These children must die where they are, to prevent the world from seeing the real, horrific extent of our genocide in Gaza, particularly in the case of Palestinian children."

I remember that during World War II, Hitler was great about showing films in Germany which demonstrated, in his mind "American decadence."  But the one film he would NOT allow seen by his people was "Gone with the Wind", because it demonstrated the cruel and horrific outcomes of the civil war, when infected  and broken bones were sawed off patients with no anaesthesia.  In the film, you saw the saws, and heard the screams.

I would suggest that thinking Israelis either find a TV station which might run this, subtitled in Hebrew, or buy a copy; this is what children in Gaza are experiencing right now, when they have to have broken or infected bones cut off, because there is no anaesthesia for them anymore, courtesy of the Israeli blockade of medical supplies.
