City of San Jose mandates videotaping of all gun purchases

Gun-rights advocates, like the Sacramento-based Firearms Policy Coalition, criticized the new ordinance, calling it unconstitutional. -- “It is outrageous that Mayor Liccardo wants to use ‘Big Brother’-style omniveillance to record gun owners’ every move, violating the privacy of millions, especially at-risk firearm purchasers,” the coalition wrote in a statement.

We Should Be Shocked By What Inflation Is Doing To Home Prices, Because We Have Never Seen This Before

If you are shopping for a home right now, I really do feel sorry for you.  Home prices in many areas of the country have officially crossed the line into “absurd” territory, and they just keep going higher.  Thanks to wild spending by the federal government and the economic malpractice that has been happening at the Federal Reserve, we now have way too many dollars chasing way too few goods and services.  Inflation is showing up in every sector of our economy, but it is not showing up equally in all sectors.  One area where inflation threatens to spiral completely out of control is in home prices.  Right now we are seeing the wildest bidding wars in U.S. history, and in many, many cases buyers end up paying way over listing price.

Vaccine Passports: Are Business Rights More Important Than Personal Freedom?

The only purpose to the requirement of vaccine passports is thus a political one – Leftist businesses will demand passports because they are biased and want to keep conservatives and freedom minded moderates out. Leftists and elitist governments will press for passports because they want leverage to deny services to conservatives and freedom minded moderates as a means of political punishment.

Manufacturing Recalls: There's A Heavy Price For Disrespecting The Laws Of Physics

The wholesome food you eat has an ominous twin: the toxic food you shouldn’t eat — and there’s a lot of it. In 2019, for example, the U.S. Department of Agriculture recalled over 10,000 tons of food products that were potentially dangerous to consumers. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the USDA together issued 337 food recalls in 2019, and that number has been edging up every year.

In 2006, more than 205 people in 26 states got sick and five people died from eating contaminated spinach.

Washington State’s Approaching Energy Crisis – Good Intentions Gone Wrong?

Washington State has trouble on the horizon – trouble with its electrical grid. Trouble as in not being reliable. Trouble as in risk of rolling blackouts.

“In our kind of zeal to remove CO2 emissions and aim for this 100% clean energy, we’re creating a reliability crisis, potentially,” Benton County PUD General Manager Rick Dunn told the Lens News. “We need to get more serious about securing our future supply of electricity.”

Dunn warns that Washington faces a large gap between grid demand on the coldest and hottest days and the availability of dependable electrical generation over the next decade. After nearly two decades of relatively flat growth, both annual and peak electricity loads are forecasted to increase in the region by 5 or 6%, even after accounting for increased energy efficiency.

Serious Warnings About COVID-19 “Vaccines” Grow

By Neenah Payne

A number of doctors and scientists are raising very serious concerns about the COVID-19 “vaccines”.

Dr. Peter McCullough, for example, points out that deaths from COVID “vaccines” exceed deaths from all 70 vaccines ever given in the US — and those numbers may represent just 1-10% of the COVID vaccine deaths. He is concerned that the injections are being given to people who should not get them. How An Electric Car Battery Can Fail: One Story

Batteries are what make an electric car an electric car. But they can also be its undoing.

I’ve owned EVs since 2013. I now drive a 2021 Chevy Bolt — but it’s not the car I should be driving.

My car is actually a 2018 Chevy Bolt. But after leaving it at the dealer in April to fix a battery issue, I haven’t seen it since.

The problem appears to be a combination of a Chevy Bolt battery recall and a chip shortage which has been plaguing the car industry since the pandemic began last year.

My problem began when the “MyChevrolet” app on my smartphone started giving me a warning (shown above) about my 2018 Bolt, urging me to take it to the dealer to address the issue.

This is a general warning that applies to all owners of 2017, 2018, and 2019 Bolts in the wake of incidents where Bolts caught fire.

"Discrimination At The Hands Of Their Government": Another Federal Court Has Halted A Racially-Biased Federal Relief Program

The order was made in favor of twelve plaintiffs from nine different states who sued the Secretary of Agriculture and the Administrator of the Farm Service Agency to enjoin the Biden Administration from implementing a loan-forgiveness program for farmers and ranchers under Section 1005 of the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARPA). The program pays up to 120% of direct or guaranteed farm loan balances for Black, American Indian, Hispanic, Asian American or Pacific Islander farmers.

As part of the ARPA, Congress appropriated “such sums as may be necessary” to pay for the cost of loan modifications and payments to “socially disadvantaged” farmers and ranchers. § 1005(a)(1). The term “socially disadvantaged farmer or rancher” is defined under 7 U.S.C. § 2279(a). § 1005(b)(3) as a farmer or rancher who is a member of a “socially disadvantaged group.” § 2279(a)(5).

Frustrated Homebuyers Are Competing With Investment Funds That Are Literally Buying Up Entire Neighborhoods

Unfortunately, many potential home buyers don’t even realize that they may be competing with investment funds, billionaires and wealth foreigners.  Gobbling up homes is now considered to be a way to make huge returns very rapidly.  Once homes are purchased, they are either flipped quickly for a large profit or they are rented out at very aggressive rates.  Meanwhile, it is becoming a lot more difficult for ordinary Americans to find affordable places to live.

"A Dangerous Precedent" - 3rd FDA Advisor Quits After Controversial Alzheimer's Drug Approval

While the mainstream media focused on the hope-filled headlines that, for the first time since 2003, the FDA approved Biogen's Aduhelm treatment for Alzheimer's Disease; few, if any, were fully aware of the levels of controversy behind the scenes.

Aside from the scientific uncertainty over whether amyloid plaque treatments are an approach worth continuing...

Despite the dominance of the amyloid hypothesis over the past few decades, evidence that links reductions in plaque levels to improvements in cognition is “thin, at best”, says Jason Karlawish, a geriatrician and co-director of the Penn Memory Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

“Desperation should drive the funding of science, not drive the way we interpret the science,” he says.

It turns out that despite the fact that not one member of the FDA Advisory Committee voted to approve Aduhelm, the FDA recently approved this Alzheimer therapy anyway, relying on an alternative measure of activity.

Webmaster's Commentary:

We desperately need approaches to this horrific issue of dementia, which come from classical, morally responsible science, rather than what the drug is apt to make, financially; I am quite sure that since its approval, whether it actually works for dementia victims or not, it will be another huge"cash cow" for Big Pharma.

And what the hell is this "alternative measure of activity" which caused this drug to be approved for Alzheimer patients in the first place?!? Can someone please quantify this for me in plain English?!? I am betting that the straight answer to this question is, "HELL no!!"

If they were smart, global authorities would be taking emergency measures to get inflation under control before it is too late. -- Of course that is not happening. Instead, they just continue to feed the monster. -- This crisis is going to go from bad to worse, and you should prepare accordingly.

An Inconvenient Truth: EVs May Offer A "Negligible" CO2 Difference From ICE Vehicles

Are the carbon footprints of EVs really as drastically lower than that of internal combustion engine vehicles? When considering the amount of carbon and CO2 created from assembling lithium ion batteries, one firm thinks the difference could be "negligible".

Such was the topic of a new blog post by natural resource investors Goehring & Rozencwajg (G&R), a "fundamental research firm focused exclusively on contrarian natural resource investments with a team with over 30 years of dedicated resource experience."

The firm, established in 2015, posted a blog entry entitled "Exploring Lithium-ion Electric Vehicles’ Carbon Footprint" this week, where they call into question a former ICE vs. EV comparison performed by the Wall Street Journal and, while citing work performed by Jefferies, argue that there could literally be "no reduction in CO2 output" in some EV vs. ICE comparisons.

‘They Could Have Their Whole Bank Account Taken Away:’ Cybersecurity Expert Warns Of New Phone Scam

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – There’s a new scam going around that involves claiming to be a major local bank.

Scam text messages are hitting phones claiming issues with PNC Bank accounts and one cybersecurity expert was targeted by this one and immediately knew it was a scammer.

“My reaction immediately was, ‘oh my god I can’t believe they’re trying to do this’,” said Albert Whale, founder of IT Security Solutions.

How did Whale know immediately that this was a fraud?

“I don’t have an account with PNC,” he said.

So, when the message came to his phone, the red flags immediately went up.

“Then I looked at the number to call, and there it was a 412 number,” he recalled.

While it was not a phone number associated with any PNC Bank branch or any part of the bank, he decided to give it a call anyway.

“Please key in your nine-digit social security number followed by the pound sign,” The automated message prompted.

Missouri Man Sentenced For Role In Largest "Organic Food" Fraud In American History

A north Missouri businessman who was involved in the largest organic fraud scheme in American history has been sentenced to probation and fined. According to KTTN, federal prosecutors in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, sentenced Steven Whiteside of Chilicothe to three years probation and a fine of 45-thousand dollars.

Two other Northwest Missouri men were sentenced to federal prison for their roles in the 142-million dollar grain fraud scheme, which federal prosecutors describe as the “Field of Schemes.”

Steven Whiteside of Chillicothe pleaded guilty in December to signing a document that allowed Randy Constant to sell conventionally raised grain as certified organic and receive a higher premium.

Federal prosecutors say Whiteside received $177-thousand for grain that Constant resold to animal feed producers. They had asked for a one-year term in prison for Whiteside. His defense attorney argued he received a lesser sentence for having a clean record and having family obligations.

Cancer-causing chemical found in 78 sunscreen products

The independent lab that made the finding is calling on the FDA to recall these sunscreen products.

An independent testing lab has detected the chemical benzene, a known human carcinogen, in 78 sunscreen products and is now calling on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to recall the products.

The lab, Valisure, checks medications and health care products for quality. Recently, the company tested nearly 300 sunscreen products and found that 27% contained benzene, according to a statement from the company. Fourteen of the products (5%) contained benzene at levels higher than 2 parts per million (ppm), which is the FDA's recommended limit for benzene in medically valuable drugs that can't be made without it.

"The presence of this known human carcinogen in products widely recommended for the prevention of skin cancer and that are regularly used by adults and children is very troubling," David Light, founder and CEO of Valisure, said in the statement.

Microsoft Warns That "1984" May Come True in Three Years Time

George Orwell's 1984 has made waves in the cultural world, even if it's someone comparing the dystopian novel to why they can't buy a breakfast meal after 11 am. However, Microsoft believes that real-life technology may soon replicate Big Brother's in the coming years.

Microsoft's Bold Claim for the Future of AI
Microsoft's president, Brad Smith, made the somewhat scary prediction on BBC Panorama. In it, the UK news giant explored how China uses artificial intelligence to keep an eye on its citizens.

Smith said that the government needs to keep up-to-date on how technology can spy on people and create laws to protect citizens' privacy as it develops. If it fails to do so, the technology runs the risk of "racing ahead," and once it gets a headstart, it will be "very difficult to catch up."

Smith is afraid of what might happen if things went unchecked:

Every Nerf Gun Could Be Turned Into "80% Or Greater Receiver" Under New ATF Rule

A Twitter user who appears well rounded with 3D-printing technology tweeted Saturday about the consequences if every "Nerf gun/foam dart gun were to suddenly become an 80% receiver."

Twitter user "00MEAT" said while the Biden administration is going after ghost guns and unserialized weapons. There could be a "list of consequences if every Nerf gun/foam dart gun were to suddenly become an 80% receiver, and if the ATF were to suddenly consider 80% receivers as firearms. I'll just let you imagine what the below image is."

00MEAT continued: "I mean, think of the children, does the ATF really want to go after every kid once they have an 80% sbr?"

With some fiddling around with basic computer-aided drafting software, 00MEAT was able to create the "Nerf .22 adapter," which could theoretically "make every foam dart gun everywhere into an 80% receiver."

"In Human History, No Single Asset Has Come Under Such Coordinated Assault By Global Institutions"

Dominion Responds After Pennsylvania Election Officials Report "Coding Error" With Voting Machines

Authored by Jack Phillips via The Epoch Times (emphasis ours),

Election officials in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, reported issues with voting equipment at polling places on Tuesday, prompting a response from Dominion Voting Systems saying that there was a ballot screen error regarding the viewing screen’s header.

Dominion Voting Systems told The Epoch Times that “Luzerne County’s election director has confirmed that there is a ballot screen error that is confined to the header on the viewing screen of the machine, and that all ballots are printing correctly with the Republican header and the Republican primary election races.”

The firm then noted that Luzerne County officials have assured the public that “all ballots will be correctly counted,” adding: “We regret any confusion this has caused.”

How a McDonald's Sausage Burrito contains more than 100 ingredients - including one chemical used in FIREWORKS

A McDonald's Sausage Burrito certainly promises to fire you up for the day, with more than 100 ingredients including one chemical compound used in fireworks.

A new behind-the-scenes video reveals that although the liquid egg in the sandwich originates from a farm in Michigan, it is mixed with twenty other components before flash frozen and reheated at restaurants.

Among the scrambled egg mix is carboxymethyl cellulose - a binding compound found in denture adhesives - and sodium benzoate, which is also used in fireworks to produce a whistling sound.

By B.N. Frank

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has been given $3.2 billion to distribute among low-income Americans for broadband assistance.

Now it appears that Internet Service Providers (ISPs) are making it tougher for qualified applicants to actually save money...

Chemical Giants Misled FDA, Consumers on Health Impact of ‘Forever Chemicals’ in Food Packaging

A new report by The Guardian reveals chemical giants DuPont and Daikin lied to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) when they told agency officials certain types of “forever chemicals” used in food packaging were safer and less likely to accumulate in humans than older versions of the chemicals.

According to The Guardian, the companies deliberately concealed the negative health effects of fluorotelomer alcohol, or 6:2 FTOH, a type of “short-chain” per- and polyfluoroalkyl (PFAS) chemicals used in pizza boxes, to-go containers and fast-food wrappers.

The chemicals have been linked to numerous health issues including kidney disease, liver damage, cancer, neurological damage, developmental problems and autoimmune disorders.

According to The Guardian:

Sharp’s new phone with a massive 1-inch sensor has me salivating

Sharp’s newest flagship has a 1-inch camera sensor with Leica branding — and that’s probably enough to catch the attention of camera photography nerds. But it might be hard to get your hands on a unit as the Aquos R6 is limited to Japan for now.

The 1-inch 20-megapixel camera sensor is the largest in the smartphone world, beating the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra’s 1/1.12-inch sensor. This means that the phone’s camera will be able to absorb more light in a short amount of time, resulting in detailed photos even in low-light situations.

Interestingly, the phone only has a single rear camera — a departure from a multi-camera setup that’s common in this age’s phones.

TNW Conference is back, baby!
Secure your spot today at super early bird prices!

The Aquos R6 is no slouch in other departments. It features a 6.6-inch screen with 2,730 x 1,260 resolution, 2,000 nits of max brightness, and 240Hz of refresh rate.

Slumlord Refuses To Give Tenant Security Deposit, Tenant Puts Slumlord Out Of Business

Unfortunately, the world's in no short supply of landlords that are blinded beyond belief by obscene levels of greed. All this greed can manifest into some very shady, generally immoral antics. In this case, it sounds like the slumlord was clearly not going to play nice, and return the security deposit to the tenants after they moved out. The good news is that the tenants didn't stand for it, and instead decided to fight back by ingeniously securing a website that'd go on to be the slumlord's ultimate archenemy

FDA Warns Cell Phones and Smart Watches Can Affect Medical Implants, Pacemakers, and Defibrillators

By B.N. Frank

There have been expert warnings about medical implants being vulnerable to cyberattacks and hacking. There have also been warnings (including by Apple) that people with pacemakers and other medical implants should NOT hold or charge Apple iPhones too close to their bodies.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has now issued a warning that cell phones as well as smart watches are capable of messing with medical devices...

This Is Why There's A Huge Chicken Shortage, Tyson Says

There's a major chicken shortage all across the country, affecting your favorite fast-food chains and restaurants and their wings, tenders, sandwiches, and more.

It started in February, and places like Bojangles and KFC are feeling the heat—and now we know why. Tyson, the world's second-largest processor of chicken, beef, and pork, says it's all due to the high demand right now, but also because of its roosters.

The company switched its male roosters earlier this year, but ultimately there have been fewer eggs and lower hatch rates. It estimates the problem accounts for about 50% of the shortage issue, according to the New York Post. "We're changing out a [type of] male that, quite frankly, we made a bad decision on," Tyson's chief operating officer and group president of Poultry, Donnie King, said during an analyst call on Monday.

Former Top Gear Host James May Says His Tesla Model S Has "Failed"

Former Top Gear host James May took to YouTube in a video published Wednesday titled "James May's Tesla Model S has failed!" to include one of the top things he hates about his Model S. May, who has already made a video about the "dozen or so things he doesn't like about his Tesla" included another annoying issue with the car: Its 12-volt battery tends to die, transforming the vehicle into an electric brick.

May explains the Tesla has "two batteries." It has a "great big battery that powers the car, and it also has, here in the front, a conventional 12-volt battery that keeps all the systems alive." He said the car sat for a while and the 12-volt battery went "flat." Since the 12-volt battery powers the car's computer and locks, he could not unlock the front bonnet to charge the battery.

May then proposed the question: Why does the 12-volt battery go flat when it has a great big battery underneath the car?

Canadian Doctors Are Being Censored

By Ethan Yang

On April 30th, 2021 the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario put out a highly controversial statement regarding what it considers to be Covid misinformation. The CPSO is a regional regulatory body empowered by statutory law to exercise licensing and disciplinary authority over the practice of medicine in Ontario. Think of it as the equivalent of a State Bar Association for American lawyers except for Canadian doctors. The statement from the CPSO is horrifying...

Ruling Class Says There’s No “Shortage” Of Fuel, Then Blames The Shortage On “Hoarders”

So they are obviously lying to us and telling us to ignore what our own eyes are showing. We live in the strangest of times, folks, and it could get even more interesting as the rulers continue to open their mouths and attempt to continue to brainwash the public into servitude.

World Renowned Conventional Doc Blasts the COVID JAB-Erwocks

By Peter Tocci

The reason this man is called ‘expert on COVID’ is that he developed a reasonably safe and very effective – officially suppressed – treatment protocol used by many progressive docs. It has kept thousands out of the hospital. He (and others) are published on this. He is also Vice Chief of Internal Medicine, Baylor University Medical Center.

Otherwise, he might be the world’s top cardiologist, who also holds an MPH degree and is a professor of medicine. His work/background is totally stunning, and seems impossible for one person. Meaning, for purposes here, he has the exceptional intelligence to analyze and dissect the COVID VAX atrocity. The measured way in which he delivers this bombshell is also remarkable.

I’ve been ‘praying’ for a major US conventional medical figure to stand up. Peter A. McCullough, M.D., M.P.H. has come forward. Even better, he’s also world famous...

Yikes! Corn Prices Are Up Roughly 50% In 2021 As Americans Brace For Years Of Horrific Food Inflation

t sure didn’t take long for the Joe Biden era to start resembling the Jimmy Carter era. Prices are going up so fast that even the mainstream media can’t stop talking about it. This has already become a major national crisis, and it should be exceedingly obvious to everyone that it is only going to get worse. The Biden administration wants to borrow and spend trillions more dollars on top of all the absurd spending that has already happened, and the Federal Reserve is going to continue to pump gigantic piles of fresh cash into the financial system. Collectively, our leaders are literally committing economic malpractice, and if most Americans truly understood what was going on they would be out in the streets protesting against it.

Massive Amazon Fake Review Scam Exposed In Data Breach

Amazon has spent years rooting out fake reviews and other seller scams from its e-commerce platform. But the latest discovery from security researchers at SafetyDetectives found what appears to be a sophisticated scheme by Amazon vendors to procure fake reviews for their products.

SafetyDetectives's cybersecurity team found a China-based Elasticsearch server of direct messages between Amazon vendors and customers running fake review schemes in exchange for free products. In total, the 7GB treasure trove contained over 13 million records, including the email addresses and WhatsApp/Telegram phone numbers of vendor contacts, plus email addresses, names, PayPal account details, and Amazon account profiles of reviewers, impacting approximately 200,000 people.

The information on the sever outlined standard procedures by which Amazon vendors would procure fake reviews for their products.

The FCC Aims To Stem Robocalls But ATT, Verizon, & T-Mobile Say Wait

Consumers get billions of robocalls and many if not most of them come from overseas locations including India and the Philippines.

On September 28, the FCC seeks to implement foreign provider regulation that would block most of these incoming calls.

Under the proposal, foreign carriers have to be approved by the FCC and those spamming calls would be blocked.

Massive and sophisticated fake review scam unearthed on Amazon - report

Scammers on Amazon are using a complex system to obtain fake 5-star reviews for their products, avoiding detection by using different forms of payment so the purchase seems as normal as any other, a watchdog site has found.

A whopping 13 million records of Amazon users and vendors participating in the colossal con job were discovered by SafetyDetectives, a cyber security team that stumbled on the trove of data on an unsecured ElasticSearch database last week.

The leak amounted to some 7 gigabytes of data, all told compromising the privacy of some 200,000 people.

Those curious about the identities of the vendors involved could find not only email addresses, but also WhatsApp and Telegram numbers. Emails were often shared as well.

FDA: “Operation Quack Hack”: Medical Mafia vs. Medical Health Freedom Fighters

By Maryam Henein

“The past was erased, the erasure was forgotten, the lie became truth.” 1984, George Orwell

IRONY ALERT! “No form of human misery can be allowed to go unexploited, and the coronavirus pandemic is no exception.” WebMD

Under the guise of safety (read: control) and fueled by a narrative that COVID-19 is a pandemic devastating the world, the U.S. government has issued a veritable witch hunt against online health professionals and natural ancient remedies like silver, vitamin C, magnesium, and mineral salts (MMS).

Headed by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Operation Quack Hack is cyberstalking and softly terrorizing hundreds of doctors and health professionals who actually care about bolstering people’s health. And yes, “Operation Quack Hack” is the actual name the FDA has given this operation...

FTC Blasts Manufacturer Excuses in Right-to-Repair Report

The FTC has published its final report on manufacturer-imposed repair restrictions in the United States and whether citizens are being treated fairly. It concludes they very much are not in a far-ranging 56-page document that evaluates every explanation various companies have provided for why they limit the right of Americans to repair products they’ve legally purchased.
“Although manufacturers have offered numerous explanations for their repair restrictions, the majority are not supported by the record,” the FTC writes. This is a polite way to end the document, considering how many holes get punched through manufacturer arguments on the previous 55 pages.

Why Is The Mainstream Media Suddenly Freaking Out About The Horrifying Inflation That Is Ahead Of Us?

Have you noticed that the corporate media has suddenly become obsessed with rising prices over the past week or so?  Day after day, mainstream news outlets are barraging us with stories about inflation, and even CNN is occasionally taking a break from bashing Republicans to cover this.  Earlier today, I was directed to a CNN article entitled “Prices are rising everywhere you look”, and I decided to read it.  Surprisingly, this was one CNN article that would actually pass an impartial fact check.  We really are seeing very painful inflation throughout the entire economy, and this is causing many to recall the days of “stagflation” under Jimmy Carter in the 1970s.

May 09 16:11

What will you do when inflation forces U.S. households to spend 40 percent of their incomes in food?

Did you know that the price of corn has risen 142 percent in the last 12 months?  Of course corn is used in hundreds of different products we buy at the grocery store, and so everyone is going to feel the pain of this price increase.  But it isn’t just the price of corn that is going crazy.  We are seeing food prices shoot up dramatically all across the industry, and experts are warning that this is just the very beginning.  So if you think that food prices are bad now, just wait, because they are going to get a whole lot worse.

Pfizer betting big on steady stream of adults and children getting yearly COVID-19 vaccines… (Hint : It’s all about REPEAT PROFITS)

Indeed, they have already laid the groundwork for a steady stream of revenue by telling the public that they will likely need at least one additional shot a year after their second dose. He also mentioned that people around the world may end up needing yearly shots, much like the flu shot, which would help Pfizer to grow its bottom line and shift COVID-19 vaccines from an emergency measure to a permanent and highly profitable line of business.

ONE child dies and Peloton recalls its ENTIRE line of treadmills – yet when thousands of children die from vaccines, there’s no recall, no lawsuits and no government oversight

Untold thousands of children have died from toxic vaccines, by the way, and never once has a pharmaceutical company responded with an apology, let alone a recall. And yet user misuse of exercise equipment was enough in Peloton’s case to pull back all associated products.

He Bought Health Insurance for Emergencies. Then He Fell Into a $33,601 Trap.

In the spring of 2019, Cory Dowd suddenly found himself without health insurance for the first time. A self-employed event planner, he had just finished a Peace Corps stint that provided health benefits, but he was still more than a year away from starting a graduate program that would provide coverage through his university.

So, like countless others in an online world, he went insurance shopping on the internet.

But the individual insurance market he was about to enter was one dramatically changed under President Donald Trump’s push to dismantle Obamacare, offering more choices at cheaper prices.

Dowd is well-educated and knew more than most about how traditional health insurance works. But even he did not understand the extent to which insurers could offer plans that looked like a great deal but were stuffed with fine print that allowed companies to deny payment for routine medical events.
